Description of Don Quijote
Don Quijote is Cervantes’ best known character. He is a middle-aged gentleman from the region of La Mancha in central Spain. Obsessed with the chivalrous ideals touted in books he has read, he decides to take up his lance and sword to defend the helpless and destroy the wicked.
This painting shows him reclining on a leather chair with a sword in his hand and a book in his lap reflecting his two obsessions.
The background is heavy textured in shades of ochre which makes a nice contrast with the blues and grays of his clothes.
The leather chair has some gold tacks attached to the canvas.
