Description of El Guateque
‘Guateque’ is a Spanish word for some sort of party mainly attended by ‘guajiros’ (the Cuban farm workers) . The painting shows a man a a woman dancing while two other men play the guitar and the bongos. The men are wearing ‘guayaberas’ , straw hats and old-fashioned black and white shoes. The lady is wearing a sexy red dress, red shoes and a flower in her flowing black hair.
There are several small buttoms attached to the guayaberas.
The colors are deep earth tones (ochre, siena, brown) with red, blue and green accents.
